Draft Plan Available for Public Review

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, in conjunction with Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, Arkansas State Police, and the Arkansas Department of Health is pleased to present the 2015 update of the Arkansas State Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan for public review and comment. Comments will be received until November 20, 2015.

It is expected that the Arkansas State Highway Commission will review and adopt the plan at its December 2015 meeting.

Plan Summary

  • Chapter 1: Introduces the plan vision and goals.
  • Chapter 2: Describes of the public and stakeholder outreach process and summary of findings.
  • Chapter 3: Presents a recommendation to develop a statewide bikeway network.
  • Chapter 4: Provides detailed findings from each of four public outreach regions and provides maps of a preliminary statewide bikeway network at the regional level.
  • Chapter 5: Presents plan objectives and action strategies, including recommendations for implementing statewide policies, programs and initiatives.
  • Appendices: Four appendices provide background detail and a guidance document to help local communities engage in effective bicycle and pedestrian planning.
